...who has seen enough character sheets of winged characters with no picture of the wings actually being attached to the rest of the creature?
I mean no offense to any artist particular. I have just noticed that especially with dragon OCs there has been this trend that the sheet has a full body picture of the dragon without wings and then the wings seperately in a different picture. Most often the full body has no indication where the wings would attach themselves (to the shoulder? to the shoulder blades? in front of the front legs or behind them?) and how big they would be in comparison to the rest of the body. It gets even more confusing with membrane wings, because it's important to know how far the membrane stretches along the body. Does it stop impractically mid-back, go past the hips or continue along the tail?
Sometimes the ref sheet is the only time the artist has drawn said character, so if you were to draw a picture of them you would be the first one ever to draw the character as a whole.
And that's just sad.
What do you guys think? Do you think there is a reason the wings are ripped off the body, a benefit to the artist or the viewer?
I see it as a sign of laziness. If the wings are somehow in the way of other features the character has, then the artist should draw two pictures. If the wings somehow screw up the composition of the sheet, then the artist should design the composition more suitable for a winged character.
Heck, the wings wouldn't even have to be missing entirely. There could be a shadow/silhouette of them on the other side of the character to at least give an idea how big they would be and how they would attach. They could be folded. Though I guess folded wings are just soooo difficult they can't be drawn to the sheet.
I'm too passionate about wings to not be passive aggressive about this apparently. :'D

I'm on Sheezy now!
https://sheezy.art/skudde Still working on my profile there but I'm really liking the site so far, so expect active and frequent presence there. It'll have merged content from my main and OC accounts here on dA. The site has some kinks that still need to be smoothened out, but it's looking really promising.
I'm on Bluesky!
https://bsky.app/profile/skudde.bsky.social I'm not out of here just yet but you might catch me more actively on Bluesky. I share more thoughts and wips over there, and my OC account followers might also enjoy some of the blorbo discussion that takes place. o/

Laxianne made a really easy tutorial for their list on the dA filter add-on:
Free Palestine
Deviantart. Really. I would have preferred to wake up without the flavor of puke in my throat.
